2010 Summer School Information

If students need to pass a class or two in order to be promoted to the next grade level, please be aware of our requirements. We will use your summer school grade to replace your lowest quarterly grade in that particular class. We will then average all of your quarterly grades for the year to determine if you will pass that class. This will determine whether or not you will move on to the next grade level.

Career Exploration Program for 8th Graders

Mrs. Page visited 8th grade social studies classes to introduce the Career Targets Online program. This is the first year we have subscribed to this online program for our 8th graders. In previous years activities were done in class in workbooks that were distributed to each student.

In each class we used the mobile laptop cart to allow all students to register for this online program. During the class period students were introduced to the program and had the opportunity to take an interest inventory or a skills assessment online. The results of these inventories demonstrated how students’ interests and skills are aligned with the world of work. Many students printed out their results.

In Mr. Matt Castriotta’s classes the web site was down the first day we reserved the laptop cart. Thus, I distributed workbooks to each student, which are theirs to keep. The same introductory discussion about levels of education and the world of work took place and students completed the interest inventory in the booklet. At a follow up lesson, his students registered for the online program and completed additional activities.

All 8th graders have the opportunity to register, complete the various career related activities and keep an online portfolio until the end of the school year. Students may access this program from their home computers to re-take or review their results and/or to complete career related research. Please have your student show you this website at www.careertargetsonline.com. It is a wonderful resource with a variety of career related information including video clips, activities and descriptions of many different occupations. For additional information feel free to contact Mrs. Page at 978-355-5042.

For Your Information...

Adolescence can be a trying time for families. Parents often report that as soon as their children entered middle school, they changed dramatically. They are no longer the kind, thoughtful, fun children they were in elementary school. Their mood swings are tough to take and family members are frustrated and confused.

The following resources can be helpful in guiding families through this difficult period. It is comforting to know that one is not alone in the process. Additionally, a bit of humor often goes a long way. Check out these titles in your local bookstore and/or online.
